How to Save on Produce Sales and Markdowns
One of the best ways to stock up on expensive produce is to get it when it is on sale or on managers mark down. You can either incorporate these sale items into your upcoming meal plan, or freeze for later. Examples would be items like red-taped bananas, organic spinach, mangoes and avocados on sale.
Here are some ways I utilize sale items and manager markdowns in produce:
- Over-ripe Bananas – Cut into 1 inch pieces and flash freeze. Use later in smoothies, short breads or muffins.
- Sale Avocados – Use in salads, or make homemade guacamole and freeze to eat later.
- Mangoes – Also use in salads, make salsas, flash freeze or puree to use over ice cream.
- Spinach – Add to meal plan as salads, sautee a side, or put into smoothies.
